VILNIUS – The European Unions has recently been facing a flow of systematic disinformation from Russia and China, aimed at undermining trust in Western structures, the European Commission's representative in Lithuania said on Friday.

"We are dealing not only with the virus and its spread but also with exponentially growing disinformation from the East – not only from Russia but also from China," Arnoldas Pranckevicius told Lithuanian lawmakers during a teleconference on Friday.

In his words, the EU's strategic communication specialists are monitoring attempts to spread mistrust in the EU and NATO, undermine member states' ability to fight the crisis, and there have also been fake news about the virus itself and ways to fight it.

"It's a systematic attempt to spread this disinformation and, therefore, I believe we need to actively fight it," Pranckevicius stressed.
